Rabbi Max Nesser was born and raised in Long Branch, New Jersey, in the Syrian community of Deal, New Jersey. His family was one of the founding members of the Ohel Simha Congregation, led by Rabbi Shmuel Choueka.

A pair of brothers, who were both born in Aleppo, Syria, contributed to most of his Torah and Hazaanut training: Rabbi Yitzhak Dwek was his Rosh Yeshiva at the Deal Yeshiva, begining as a young child and culminating after 3 years of advanced study in the Deal Yeshiva Bet Medrash and Kollel. Rabbi Moshe Dwek A”H taught him pizmonim, hazzanut, and how to read Torah.

After a few years in post high school advanced Torah studies in Deal Yeshiva, he attended Bet Medrash Gevoha of Lakewood, New Jersey.

Rabbi Max currently lives in North Hollywood, CA, with his wife Raquel and his six children. Raquel is the principal of the local Sephardic school of the valley, Or Hachaim Academy.

Rabbi Max is currently the Rosh Bet Midrash and Ba’al Koreh at Shaarey Yerushalayim, and he gives various classes to our community.
